About
Tsukuba Orientation is an event where experienced members of the community, “senpai” can help new residents with information on living in Tsukuba. This event is non-profit and all “senpai” and other helpers are volunteers.
The aim of Tsukuba Orientation is to help residents, both new and old, to live comfortably in the Tsukuba area. The event is mainly held in English, but we hope to have volunteers from the wider community who speak other languages.
The first Tsukuba Orientation was held in 2007. Last year it was ‘seminar style’ with 3 information sessions, with a total of 7 themes. Visitors chose which information session to attend. This year, 2008, we will try a new style. Our idea is to use one large open space with information tables for each different theme. The tables will be staffed by volunteers with experience in that theme. Visitors can move freely to any table, receiving information and asking questions. This style is similar to a ‘science fair’ or ‘trade show’ but we will use tables instead of booths.
